Honorable judges, ladies and gentleman,

My name is Xu Chang, a sophomore student from class two. Today my topic is “My parents and my future”. I would like to begin with my personal experience. One day I called my parents,“mom, I am really confused, what should I do in the future? Go abroad, study hard to become a post graduate student, or just find a job?”After a few seconds my mother said “My lovely daughter, remember , a good skater never tries to skate in two directions at the same time, as as a college student, you should have your own guideline, that is :Make choices that lead to a clearer vision of who you are, what you can do, then try your best to reach your goal, my lovely daughter, feeling perplexed is normal in your age, you should figure out what should top your priority list”. When I am confused and have a lot of questions, I usually call my parents, maybe, they can’t solve my problems, but, at least, they give me courage and suggestions.

Indeed, this is not going to be an easy choice: I would love to go to graduate school, I would also love to work directly after graduation; I would love to work in such big cities as Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen, I would also love to work in my hometown, which is intimate, though slightly lagging in development. All of these sound good, but they are possibilities, for those of us who are bewildered at the abundance of opportunities, I would love to say with my parent’s words,“Remember, a good skater never tries to skate in two directions at the same time, as a college student, you should have your own guideline, that is, make choices that lead to a clearer vision of who you are, what you can do, then tries your best to reach your goal”

        When I am confused about facing too many choices, a little girl in my primary school come into my mind, I witnessed her dropping out from school. Her father was dead, her mother was disabled. When I was preparing for my college, she was working in the fields, when I was studying in the library, she was preparing for her wedding, now, I am second year student, and she, is a mother.

        But luckily, I don’t have to worry about my tuition fee, I moved up grade by grade. Without their hard working ,my tuition fee is impossible; without their hard working, my going to college is impossible; without their hard working, my future is impossible!

        Words William said that “That the best portion of a good man’s life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love”, and I want to say, with my parents’ little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love, I grow up and stand here, but if the result turn out badly, I won’t lose my heart and complain, after all I’ve tried.

Yes, feeling perplexed is normal in our ages, we should face our future bravely. Now let me close by these sayings: The only thing to fear is fear itself, the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams!
